Croydon Council is bringing back its blitz clean programme, targeting five areas to improve street cleanliness and reduce environmental crime.
Selhurst, Thornton Heath, Norbury, Shirley and New Addington will receive street cleansing, graffiti removal, highways maintenance and environmental enforcement.
Jason Perry, Executive Mayor of Croydon, said: “We’re also introducing community collection days, making bulky waste collections even easier by coming to residents’ doorsteps.
“By working with residents’ associations and making it easier for people to dispose of items they no longer need responsibly, we can help prevent fly-tipping and support residents to do the right thing.”
The council will also bring back pop-up mobile recycling centres, accepting items including household goods, small electrical appliances, batteries and vapes. Officials said easier disposal could help reduce fly-tipping and increase recycling.
New community collection days will provide residents with a way to dispose of bulky household items. Where possible, items will be reused or recycled.
The council is also exploring longer opening hours for household reuse and recycling centres.
